Wagemut PX Cask Strength

Among other things, we also served our PX-Cask directly from the barrel – at full strength. Before it goes into the bottle, it is (like all regular bottlings in all spirit categories) reduced to what is known as drinking strength.

Peter looks at me and asks if I'm kidding. He wants to know what kind of amazing stuff this is and how the concentrated alcohol content and sweetness elevate our beloved PX-Cask to a whole new level.

A showdown between the intensity of the barrel aromas and the heavy, fruity sweetness.

Just like that, we started pushing some of the barrels through the crowd, tapping from them, and distributing directly to people.

The response was so overwhelmingly positive that we granted our members the privilege of bottling a bottle directly from the barrel. Simply in a plain bottle.

But that wasn't enough. After masses of emails asking when they could get more, we had to act:
We would release the stuff as an official Wagemut bottling.

Shit, I thought to myself. As much as I appreciate the great feedback, it's increasingly giving me a headache to keep bottlings consistently in stock.

We at Wagemut are a small company and are growing fast. We are self-financed and 100% independent. We don't owe any bank anything and don't have to justify ourselves to investors – and I'm damn proud of that!
This freedom is so important to me that I will preserve it for Wagemut under all circumstances and forever.

Problem: With our rapid growth, it's a challenge for us to have enough product available. After all, we're talking about barrel-aged products, not some cheap gin-that's-actually-flavored-vodka-crap that's produced for little money and sold for a lot.
(Aged) rum is bought and then put into great barrels for months, sometimes years.
That needs proper planning, and above all, our capital needs to be used wisely.

Example:
We are currently working on a new edition of our Wagemut XO. But that also means that we are constantly buying great barrels and aging great rum in them – but the aging takes two years, and our capital is tied up the whole time.
Spending money today, earning money with it in 2–3 years…

Damn idealists! Who came up with such nonsense?
Oh, right, that was me…

What I'm trying to say is:
Consistently bringing a product to market is extremely difficult and incredibly expensive.
Therefore, I don't want to expand our product range. On the contrary:
I'm currently cleaning up Wagemut, and we're gradually discontinuing some of our steady products.

However, since the feedback for the Wagemut PX Cask Strength is so good and I don't want to withhold the product from you, I've come up with the following:
We will bottle the product once a year.
We will then produce a decent batch so that everyone with good taste can stock up well.

Hasn't it turned out beautifully?

The 01 stands for the first release.
Since "Strength" means "Stärke" in German, we came up with a power animal as a symbol.
Each bottling in the future will therefore feature a different animal – here's a little sneak peek:

The first batch will be released at the end of this month.
Our members, as always, will receive pre-sale rights and can purchase the bottle as early as May 29th via a hidden link that we will send by email.
The public release will then be Monday, June 5th.
